The Portuguese Golden Visa programme has created at least 200 new job positions since this program came into force, according to data requested by Lusa from the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).
The jobs have been granted through the investment option of creating at least 10 new job positions in Portugal.
Besides buying property in Portugal in the value of €500,000 or higher, the creation of at least 10 new job positions is another of the seven investment options for the granting of the Portuguese Citizenship for Investment Activity (ARI), which started in October 2012.
Asked by Lusa about job creation through this investment option, an official source from SEF said, "To date, from the beginning of Golden Visa programme, 16 residence permits have been issued in this way, resulting in at least 200 jobs in total."
Regarding the region of investment, "the most prominent area is Greater Lisbon (eight ARI)", added the same source.
In more detail, half of the Golden Visas granted under this requirement were in the Greater Lisbon area and the other eight "are evenly distributed throughout the North, Center and South of the country".
Regarding the areas of activity of the companies, SEF says that "they are diverse", from the metalworking industry, textile factories, technology, agriculture, civil and real estate construction, among others.
