In one year, Portugal has gone up 15 positions in the ranking, voted by 600,000 readers of the Travel specialised American magazine.
The November issue of Condé Nast Traveler focuses on the awards that travel magazine readers award to various destinations around the world, including only the best countries, but also hotels, cities, islands, cruises and spas.
This year, Portugal is back in the top 20, and it has risen 15 places compared to 2018, making it the third-best tourist destination in the world, according to the readers.
Apart from Portugal, the Readers' Choice Awards allowed only two more European destinations: Greece, in seventh place, and Italy, in the ninth position. Indonesia is the favourite destination for the majority of the 600,000 readers voting in, followed by Thailand.
Portugal also appears in the ranking of the best 'spas' in the world, through the Sisley Paris Spa, in Vila Vita Parc, Porches, Algarve that was ranked in third place. Six Senses Douro Valley, in Lamego, came up on 13th place.
This is not the first time that Portugal is recognised as one of the best tourist destinations in the world. In September, the country received a tourist destination award given by the World Tourism Organization. For three consecutive years, Portugal has also been chosen as the best European tourist destination in the United States tourism awards, the Word Travel Awards.
