Lisbon Plants 20,000 Trees as First European Green Capital initiative

Mon 6 Jan 2020

It's going to "rain" seeds in the city: it's the "biggest tree plantation ever" in Lisbon, which guarantees the municipality. And it's one of the first initiatives of the European Green Capital 2020 Lisbon program.

On Saturday, Lisbon's European Green Capital 2020 officially opens: it will be at Parque Eduardo VII from 3 pm. The following day, the City Council opens the invitation to everyone who wants to plant a tree in Lisbon.

On Sunday, January 12th, the council confirmed that 20 thousand trees will be planted in four different locations in Lisbon. The area where it will "rain" more seeds will be the Parque Urbano do Vale da Montanha (Areeiro/Marvila): no less than nine thousand trees will be planted.

The Parque Urbano do Vale da Ameixoeira (Santa Clara) will receive six thousand trees, while the Parque Urbano do Rio Seco (Alto da Ajuda) will receive four thousand more.

For the Corredor Verde de Monsanto, it is planned to plant one thousand trees.

"Participate in the largest ever plantation of trees in the city" is the invitation of the City Council of Lisbon. Anyone can participate by registering on the official website.
