The elegant heart of Lisbon
Chiado is one of the most elegant and charismatic neighbourhoods in Lisbon and is located between Bairro Alto and Baixa. Most of the buildings date back to the 18th century and much of the area was rebuilt in the 1990s by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira after a major fire in 1988. Since then Chiado has been reborn, becoming a unique, vibrant and must-visit neighbourhood.
In the 19th century, the neighbourhood was especially frequented by bohemians and intellectuals, such as some of the most important Portuguese writers. Today, century-old shops live next to modern brands, as well as being full of elegant shops, restaurants, old-style cafés, bookstores and museums. Despite the influx of tourists and shops of international brands, it is still possible to find hidden streets and typical alleys with workshops of artisans and old theatres renovated with much charm.
The perfect combination of tradition and modernity with a touch of charm and elegance, this neighbourhood has a varied offer of luxury properties, some with a breathtaking view over the Tejo River and Lisbon's iconic hills.
