A modern neighbourhood just outside of the Lisbon's prime city limits
Most certainly when you hear Benfica you think of a soccer club. And that is perfectly understandable! The magnificent Benfica stadium, so-called Stadium of Light, is one of the landmarks of the neighbourhood. However, Benfica is much more than home to one of two Portuguese internal soccer rivals. One of the city's oldest districts, where the frontiers of Lisbon once stood, is nowadays a modern residential area occasionally interrupted by the bustle of the streets. Benfica features modern leisure facilities, many green areas and parks, a lot of new residential condominiums, as well as older but solid residential facilities. Also, you are never far away from either a well-known retail chain or your local grocery shop or one of the biggest shopping malls in Portugal - Colombo. Another prominent facility in Benfica, apart from the Fronteira Palace, is also the Ismaili Centre - a distinguished and unique architectural landmark of Lisbon.
