Mix of commercial and residential
On the other hand, the neighbourhood has a very strong commercial nature, dominated by the iconic Amoreiras Shopping Centre, the first shopping centre built in Lisbon. Besides the commercial space, the centre also consists of the Amoreiras towers, which host countless company headquarters and luxury apartments.
From 1879, the field of mulberry trees (amoreiras in portuguese) that was here began to give way to Lisbon's traditional buildings and mansions, and today an increasing number of modern constructions.
Besides a great trade tradition, Amoreiras also has a selection of luxury hotels and offers moments of true tranquillity in Amoreiras Garden, where the emblematic Águas Livres Aqueduct, built in the 18th century, ends.
The good access to the rest of the city and to various public transports, the shopping centre and a large number of other amenities make this area very practical for busy working middle and upper classes.
